The Library is available for quiet study and research. Quiet conversation and working together in small groups are allowed so long as this activity does not infringe on the rights of others. No food or drink is allowed. Students are expected to follow the St. Mary’s Academy Code of Conduct at all time in the library. Students presenting disruptive behavior (as listed in the Student Handbook/Agenda) will be asked to leave and may lose library borrowing privileges.
Technology Acceptable Use
Students must abide by the Academy’s Computer Network Acceptable Use Policy. All Internet use applies to any network station at St. Mary’s Academy, including the library. It is the responsibility of the student and parent/guardian to be aware of the contents of the Computer Network Acceptable Use Policy. Cell phone use for research is permitted in the library, unless otherwise instructed by a classroom teacher. As described in the Student Handbook/Agenda, “the cafeteria is the only area in the school where the use of cell phones for personal business is permitted throughout the day.”
Most books and back issues of magazines may be checked out for two weeks and may be renewed if necessary. Reference materials may be checked out for overnight use. Students are responsible for any item checked out in their name.
Teachers often request that certain materials be placed on reserve to ensure equal access to those items for all class members. These items will be placed on a cart and may be checked out for overnight use and must be returned the following morning by 8:30 a.m.
Items not returned by the due date will be considered overdue. Overdue notices will be sent to the student’s school email. Students with overdue items or fines will lose library borrowing privileges until fines are paid and overdue materials are returned.
