St. Mary’s Academy provides support to students of average and above average ability who require assistance to achieve their academic potential. A Resource Teacher consults and works in collaboration with students, teachers, parents, administrators and Child Guidance Clinic clinicians to identify the source of problems and to put supports in place as necessary.
The Resource Teacher is able to refer students to the following clinicians at the Child Guidance Clinic: School Psychologist, Reading Clinician, Speech and Language, and Social Work.
The Resource Teacher supervises a Peer Tutoring Program. In this program, the student who wants extra help is matched with an older student who has been successful in the course. The tutors are paid $11.00 per hour by the parents of the student being tutored.
